Seeds

The value chain begins with seeds from selected cones

The seeds for our cultivation of trees are mainly obtained from cones gathered in Danish cultivated seed plantations and our own gathering areas in Georgia, where in 1996 we selected a particularly beautiful section – called A10 – which has proved to grow particularly magnificent and homogeneous Christmas trees.

In addition, we also gather and receive seeds from other species and origins, but the selection is always based on a precise assessment of quality and utilisation. The seeds are processed in our own seed processing plant.

Nursery

The young tree must be well cared for

The next important step in the value chain is the nursery. A quality tree requires a perfect start to life, so the plantations and producers get strong and viable plants and avoid unnecessary loss. We have developed a unique stratification system which ensures seeding at the absolutely right time and optimal germination in the field and thus better and stronger plants for our customers. We have more than 240 hectares of cultivation area at our disposal in the nursery, Majland. This is, without comparison, the largest production in the world of Nordmann fir plants. Therefore, we also have particularly high internal quality requirements for effective handling and logistics in order to ensure competitive prices and high security of supply for our consumers.

Plantations close to the customers throughout Europe

Green Team Group has plantations around most of Europe where we cultivate fir trees for Christmas trees, decoration foliage and decoration materials. We carefully select those areas where we plant Christmas trees in order to ensure optimal cultivation and delivery. There are many deciding factors, which determine the perfect piece of land for Christmas tree cultivation: Location, temperature, rainfall, soil and logistics. By producing in close vicinity to our customers, we can deliver completely fresh products and simultaneously reduce transport to the benefit of the environment, the economy and ability to deliver. At the same time, it is possible to take into consideration regional differences for requirements regarding the appearance of the trees.
